Shuhari-Kai Summer Camp

Shuhari-Kai Karate Club held its annual training camp at Seashore, Great Yarmouth, on the half term break.

Most arrived on the Saturday to begin the training on the Sunday in the main hall. It was good job training was inside because it rained for most of the time, but this didn’t’ dampen the students enthusiasm.

The students were put through their paces with some people concentrating on the work they’d need to put in for their grade. Some of the students were graded on Tuesday with Brandon Halling, Jordan Hodges, Billie Lowry, Callum Alboni and Aryan Ayerman all passing their grades to reach their next belts.

On the Wednesday, we were very fortunate to have Wayne Otto OBE come down for the day. That woke them up a it!

After the warm up (lots of press ups), Wayne concentrated on some simple punching techniques especially for the younger students. Then a lot more more press ups! More emphasis was placed on the sport side of fighting rather than traditional which Jordan rather enjoyed!!!!! All the students really enjoyed the session with Wayne and look forward to him returning to the club again. (but just not the press-ups!)

On Thursday it was the turn of Dave Edwards Black Belt grading and Alex Sell's Senior Black Belt grading. After weeks of preparation the day finally came and after several gruelling hours, for both Dave and Alex, both were awarded their belts.

There were presentations to the students who’d passed their grading, a presentation was also made to Richard Burridge, Steve Edwards, Gary Page and Lawrence Grosvenor for all their help in making the training camp interesting and enjoyable.

In the evening most of the club went to celebrate the students grading at the Club House on the campsite, with poor Dave Edwards being pulled up on stage to take part in a competition, about 50-80's music. He had to go into the audience asking people for the names and artist of the song, and the first one to touch the stage and answered correctly earned 10 points. Then after that Dave, Sensei Burridge and Jodie Miles, were asked to take part in a YMCA dance in front of the whole camp!! Dave had to dress up as a Sailor, Richard as a Biker, and Jodie as a Red Indian. Think Richard will keep the outfit!

On the Friday a small competition was held for the club members, to take part in and a chance for some younger students to see what is required when entering a competition..

Results to follow.

All in all a good weeks training.
