6, students attended the Meopham Junior Open competition on Sunday 20th July 2008.
Billie Lowry was the squads only Kata competitor of the day and she entered the 3rd & 2nd Kyu Kata event. She performed Seienchin Kata and scored 20.8 from the three judges coming 7th overall with 14 in her category.
Callum Alboni and Aryan Ayerman were the first of the Kumite fighters entering the under 4'2" category. Callum had a bye in the first round, but unfortunately lost the next round 4 points to 3 after a tough match. Nonetheless Callum did collect a bronze medal
for his efforts. Aryan fared better as he won his first fight 6 points to 0. His 2nd round saw him win 9 points to 4 to make the final. A close final saw Aryan just miss out losing a close fight 4 points to 3 having to settle for Silver this time round.
Ali and Andrew Ayerman both entered over 5'2" category. Ali lost his opening round fight 8-0 whilst Andrew fared little better losing 2-0.
Sheree Ayres is new to competition and entered this competition as her first outside competition. She entered into the 4'8" to 5'2" Novice to 6th Kyu category. Sheree was awarded her first fight after her opponent pulled out following a punch to her
stomach. Unfortunately she lost the next fight 3 points to 1 but gained a silver medal in the process.
Billie Lowry entered the 4'8" to 5'2" 5th Kyu & above category and won her first fight 2 points to 1. However Billie lost her semi-final fight 3 points to 2 settling for a bronze medal.
Altogether they came away with 2 Silver medals and 2 Bronze medals.
