Sunday 26th October 2008 saw Alex Sell from Shuhari-Kai Karate Club travel to Ponds Forge, Sheffield to compete in the EKF Northern Regional Championships. Alex once again did
well coming home with two Gold medals from the four events he entered.
Alex initially competed in the Male Senior Male Kata event and performed Annan as his opening Kata only to face a Chatanyara Kushanku Kata. Alex predictably lost the decision but only 2 flags to 1. Alex then went on to compete in the Male Juniors
15-17yrs, 3rd Kyu & Over Kata event. Once again Alex performed Annan as his opening Kata but this time won 3 flags to 0. The semi-final saw Alex perform Chatanyara Kushanku and once again secured a 3-0 win. The final saw another 3-0 win as Alex secured the Gold following his
Suparimpei Kata.
The Kumite events saw Alex in two categories with the Male Senior 16yrs+, Open Weight event first. Although slightly apprehensive in this open event Alex took the fight to his big Ishinryu opponent holding the middle and trying to score, but it was his
opponent who caught Alex with a Chudan Mawashigeri kick just before the end who took the match and incidentally went on to the final. A learning experience for Alex.
Alex then fought in the Male Juniors 16-17yrs, U68kg event. A very small field of four and then one of the a no-show put Alex straight into the final. Alex fought a lively opponent from KDI who did well but Alex scored a point mid way through the fight
which was enough to seal victory leaving Alex to collect his second Gold of the day.
