Aimee Sell from Shuhari-Kai Karate Club travelled to the Harvey Hadden Sports Centre, Nottingham, on Saturday morning 23rd February to compete in the AMA International Open
Championships. Aimee has had a good record at these championships collecting 2 gold and 1 silver in the last three years for the Kata events she's competed in. This was Aimee's first competition of the year and she was looking forward to trying out some of her new Katas and try
some of the new changes she's applied to her Katas.
Aimee competed in the Girls Dan Grade 10-12yrs Kata event and found only 7 competitors in her category. Preparing for three Katas she then received a bye in the 1st round leaving her with only two Katas to perform. Her opening semi-final round Kata was
Annan where she performed it very well applying her new adaptations seamlessly. The Kata looked very good and won her the round with a 3 flags to 0 decision. The final saw Aimee perform Chatanyara Kushanku and once again a very strong performance saw her receive a unanimous
flag decision 3-0 to land her yet another gold at this event. It was pleasing to see that the winter break from competition hadn't hindered her in any way or take away her competition sharpness, in contrast her continued hard training throughout the winter had improved her
Katas both technically and in her application. Well done Aimee.
