Alex and Aimee Sell from Shuhari-Kai Karate Club were the only two representatives from the club to show support for the Sakagami International Wado Kata competition
being held on Sunday 14th October 2007. The competition was arranged by Sakagami Sensei, president of JKF-Wadokai England. The competition was being held in Cheslyn Hay,
West Midlands which meant another early start for the duo. Given the fact that there was a much closer open competition being held on the same day with both Kata and Kumite, and also the Sakagami International
competition was Kata only restricted to Wado only Katas, both showed great spirit with their support.
Aimee competed in the Girls 10-12yrs, 3rd Kyu & Over category and gained a bronze. She narrowly lost out 2 flags to 1 in her opening round following her Seishan Kata, but
turned that around winning 2-1 in her first repechage round with Wanshu Kata. Aimee finally claimed a bronze winning her final match 3 flags to 0 following her performance of Chinto Kata. Well done Aimee having the ability to medal in multiple Karate styles.
Alex competed in the Boys 13-15yrs, 3rd Kyu & Over category and this was Alex’s first ‘Wado-Kai’ Kata competitive experience and first Wado only comp for many years. Alex
made a good with his opening Seishan Kata winning the round 3 flags to 0. The 2nd round saw Alex perform Jion and secure a 2-1 win. The semi-final saw Alex secure another 2-1 win following his Wunshu Kata to make the final. Alex performed Chinto Kata in the final to
good effect winning the match 3 flags to 0 securing Gold.
This was good preparation for Alex who flies out to Sweden in November to compete in both Kumite and Kata for Wadokai England in the Wadokai European Cup.
