Meopham Junior Championships

'Golden Boy' Dean Bannister did the business recently at the Meopham Junior Championships held in Meopham, Kent on 25th March 2007. Dean went through three rounds winning 4-2, then 2-0 to make the final winning 7-4 to secure GOLD in the Male Cadets 16-18yrs Kumite category. Jodie Miles took Silver in the Girls 4'8''-5'2'', 5th Kyu & Over Kumite category to claim her second medal of the day adding to her earlier Bronze secured in the Mixed Dan Grade Kata event. Jodie went through four Kumite rounds narrowly losing out in the final 5-7.

Another Kumite Silver medallist was Callum Alboni competing in the Boys Under 4'2'' category. Callum went through three rounds winning 5-4, then 3-2 but lost out 2-6 in the final. Callum competed in the mixed Under 8yrs, 6-4th Kyu Kata event too but failed to progress into the last four finalists. Kurtis Walters was competing along side Callum in his first external competition and did well even though he didn't medal. Kurtis performed Pinan Nidan in his Kata event and scored a good 7.0, 6.8 & 6.8 from the three judges but like Callum failed to make the final four. In his Kumite event he lost out in his opening round fight but fought really well. Billie Lowry was competing with the two boys in the Kata event and her performance of Pinan Godan secured her Bronze. In her Kumite event, the Girls 4'2''-4'8'', 5th Kyu & Over, she secured her second Bronze of the day after losing her semi-final fight 0-8. Well done Billie.

Competing in the Mixed 1st Kyu Kata category was Jade Lewis  and Aimee Sell. Jade performed Bassai-Dai Kata but failed to make the final four whilst Aimee did make the final securing the highest total with her performance of Nipaipo Kata. However, Aimee lost out in the semi-final after her Bassai-Dai Kata lost out 2 flags to 1. Jade, Aimee and Jodie joined forces for Team Kata events and secured another Bronze as their Jion Kata scored 21.0 from the three judges leaving them in third position overall.

The Ayerman cousins, Ali and Andrew were both competing in the Boys 4'8''-5'2'', 5th Kyu & Over category. Ali had a tough opening round and lost out 1-9. Andrew on the other hand fought really well and whilst leading in the final seconds was caught out by a bad decision and lost out 3-4 to end his medal hopes too.
