Havering Games

The Havering Games held on Saturday 6th May 2006 proved to be a big success with more competitors this year than in pervious years helping to make this a more fiercely fought contest. The Kata events commenced first with the boys and girls split into the two competing age groups as per the London Youth Games - School years 6-9 and School years 10-12. The Kata events judged on points with each competitor performing an initial Kata and the top six going on to a further round once again scored on points.

Competing for Shuhari-Kai in the Girls School Years 6-9 were Jade Lewis, Jodie Miles and Aimee Sell. Jade was the first on the mats and performed Seienchin Kata. Aimee followed Jade and chose to perform Annan. Last to compete in the round was Jodie who performed Bassai-Dai. All three girls made the final cut and once again Jade was up first. Jade performed Nipaipo Kata as did Aimee who followed Jade once more. Jodie up last once again performed Annan Kata. Once the scores had been tallied, Jodie secured Gold achieving a score of 33.9. Silver was secured by Aimee who scored 33.4 overall. Jade was just short of the bronze finishing in 5th spot with a score of 32.0.

The Boys School years 6-9 category saw Ali Ayerman, Jordan Keiley, Danny Libby, Alex Sell and Luke Wilshire competing for Shuhari-Kai. Ali, Jordan, Danny and Luke all performed Pinan Katas but all failed to make the final cut of the top six. Alex did make the cut after performing Suparimpei. Alex went on to perform Chatanyara Kushanku and achieved the top score giving him Gold.

The Boys School years 10-12 only had Dean Bannister in this event and Dean chose not to enter leaving the final Kata category, the Girls School years 10-12 to be contested by Sophie Roberts and Ishinryu's Sophie Richardson. This event was judged on flags with Sophie (Roberts) taking the flags 3-0 following her performance of Annan.

The Kumite events soon commenced with Jade taking Gold in the Girls U45kg event. Jade went through two rounds winning 4-0 in the semi-final and 3-0 in the final. The Girls U50kg event saw Jodie collect a Silver after winning her opening match 3-0. The final match saw Jodie suffer a broken hand with match evenly poised at 6-6. Jodie ended the day in hospital and left with her arm in plastered. Hope you're back in action soon. Sophie won the Girls over 60kg event with a straight 9-1 win the the final taking her second Gold of the day.

The boys U45kg event saw Luke, Danny and Jordan all in action together. Danny went out in the 1st round losing 3-0. Jordan won his opening round match 2-0 after facing team mate Luke in the semi final. Jordan came out the winner with a 2-0 victory. Jordan couldn't quite carry over his form into the final as he narrowly lost out 1-0 but took a well deserved Silver with Luke and Danny collecting a Bronze  a-piece. Ali also collected a Bronze in the Boys U55kg event losing 1-0 in the semi-final match. Last up for the boys was Alex and Dean competing in the Boys U60kg event. Although Alex gave away a couple of years to Dean, Alex won the match 6-1 giving him his second Gold of the day with Dean collecting Silver.

As mentioned a good turnout to this years event helped make the day great. Big thanks to Dave Walling, Trisha Jordan, Danielle Joyce, Steve Edwards and Richard Burridge for judging and refereeing the event and also thanks to table officials Pat Miles and Kerry Roberts.
