Mushindo Wado-Kai National Open Kata Championships
It was an early start for Jodie Miles as she was the only student from Shuhari-Kai to enter the Mushindo Wado-Kai competition which was held at Wolverhampton on Saturday 9th
July 2005.
After travelling for 2 ˝ hours and arriving at the same time as the organisers, we were allowed in to take our seats and wait for Jodie’s categories to begin. This only took a little while as it was very well run with only 3 mats being used.
Jodie was called to area 3 for her Wado section, but while she was performing her first Kata they then called her to mat 2 for the Shito section too. After talking to the organiser, table officials and all the judges, Jodie was allowed to run
from mat to mat to perform in both sections...
And so for the Wado section Jodie was called up first and decided to perform Jion and took all 3 flags, she then went into the next round and performed an excellent Chinto (the best we have ever seen her do this Kata ) but unfortunately she
only managed to get 1 flag but this did put her into repechage. Jodie decided to perform Wanshu in repechage, but even though she has only just learnt this Kata said she would like to try it in competition. It was a bad decision as again she only got 1 flag, never mind Jodie they
were all well performed especially in the circumstances.
Back to mat 2 and the Shito Kata’s. With Jodie worn out running back and forth to the two different mats her first Kata in this section was Seienchin and she took no prisoners this time with a 3-0 win. Jodie was then up against an A.M.A.
student, so Jodie decided to perform Bassai-Dai and another win as she took a 2 flags to 1 decision. This then put Jodie in the final up against another A.M. A. Student. After watching her opponent perform Nipaipo Jodie decided to do Seipai and took another 2 flags to 1 victory again
and along with it the gold medal.
Just before the medals were awarded the organisers had arranged for a raffle to support cancer research and after purchasing some tickets Jodie won first prize, but she decided to decline it and take 2nd prize instead a lovely DVD
player.
Jodie and her parents would like to thank Vince Parker and the Mushindo team for a well run event and for making them feel so welcome. |
