Shuhari-Kai Easter Competition

As scheduled the competition started on time at 2p.m. with more peewees entering this year, which made it more interesting.

Kata was first with the peewee competitors, after all performing Pinan Nidan and adding up the scores the outcome was Jonathan and Scott collecting bronze medals, Hannah collected silver, and the gold medal went to Daniel Libby.

Next was the higher grade kata category, this time all competitors up to 4th Kyu performed Pinan Shodan and 3rd Kyu and above performed Kushanku, but all of these had a slight disadvantage as Sensei Richard decided it would be fun if they wore flippers while performing there kata. There were 10 competitors and after they had all finished falling over and giggling the outcome was Billie and Jodie collected bronze medals, Sante collected silver and the gold medal went to Jordan.

Now for the adults, again the same as the junior high grades they too had to perform while wearing flippers, with all the competitors performing Pinan Shodan the outcome was Sedra and Dawn collecting bronze, Amir collecting Silver, and Richard collecting the gold medal.

After a short interval and the raffle being drawn, which made £51.00 for our squad, the kumite events began.

First up were the peewees 8 years and under, after all 13 competitors had been up the results were Charlotte and Jonathan collecting bronze, Callum collected silver and Josh got the gold medal.

Next up was junior 10 years and under with Billie Lowry, as Billie is only 6 years old but a higher grade she got moved to the higher group. With more controlled moves being performed during this event the outcome was Robin and Billie collecting bronze medals, Ali collecting silver and Jordan collected the gold.

Under 15 years was next and after good performances from all who entered the results were Harsha and Jade collecting bronze, Jodie collected silver and Sophie collected the gold.

Now for the ladies with Ellie moving up a category the results were, Sedra and Nad collecting bronze, Ellie collecting silver and Dawn collecting the gold medal.

The men’s section came alive a little more, which had the judges on their toes. After an exhausting event the outcome was Dean and Richard collecting bronze medals, Phil collected silver and Wayne collected the gold medal.

At the end of an exciting day Sensei Richard handed out cream eggs to all who took part and thanked all the helpers who were Terry Hartwell keeping the scores, Jodie and Sophie on the flags, and Pat and Kerry who organised the raffle.
