30th Anniversary E.K.K.A. BT Exact Open Competition

Well what can we say!

First of all Shuhari-Kai would like to say a big thank you to Billy Brennan and the E.K.K.A association for inviting us to there 30th anniversary B.T. Exact open competition, all the referees, judges and competitors were very kind and helpful to all our students that we sent there.

The day started with Callum Alboni entering his first ever Kata competition, Callum chose to perform Pinan Shodan and scored a credible 21.8 from the three judges, but this was just 0.2 out of the medals so a big well done to Callum and keep up the good work.  Next up for Kata was Billie Lowry and Jordan Hodges. Billie performed Pinan Nidan and scored 23.0, while Jordan performed Pinan Shodan and scored 23.3, it was good enough for both students as they both collected bronze medals.

Jade Lewis was our next competitor and after performing a very impressive Seienchin she scored 24.7 which was more than enough to take 1st place and our first gold medal of the day.

Next up was Jodie Miles who entered the Dan grade section. Jodie performed Bassai – Dai and scored an amazing 25.1 which not only took 1st place and the gold medal but it was the highest scored Kata of the day. With the Kata all done and dusted by 12 noon we thought we might get home a little early but with so many competitors entering the Kumite section we were wrong.

Our first fighter for the day was first time out Brandon Halling. Brandon was in the under 4’2” beginners category, after battling through two rounds and winning both he found himself in the final. Unfortunately he just couldn’t pull the last fight off and had to settle for second place but collected a well deserved silver medal.

Callum Alboni and Aryan Ayerman were next with both in the 4’2” and under 0 – 7 kyu category Callum was called to the mat first, he won his first fight but was unable to progress any further as he lost his second fight by 1 point, but Callum did manage to collect a bronze medal for his achievements. Aryan on the other hand had a first round bye, he then went on to win his second fight. Now Aryan was in the final and what a nail biter, with both competitors matching each others punches Aryan just managed to score the first point in extra time, after the ref said "yame", Aryan realised he had won and just kept jumping up and down, punching the air with both hands, with everyone shouting at him to stop the ref then awarded Aryan with his gold medal.

Reece Floyd was our next competitor and yet again like Brandon, this was Reece’s first competition, he was in the boy’s 4’2” – 4’8” 0 -7 kyu category. Reece fought well but after giving away too many penalty points to the other competitor he lost his fight after extra time 4 points to 3, but given time we’re sure it won’t be long before Reece begins to bring home some medals.

Jordan Hodges was next in the boy’s 4’2” – 4’8” 6th to 4th kyu category. Jordan breezed through the first round and then went on to win his second after extra time, but Jordan couldn’t quite land his techniques in his last fight but still managed to collect a bronze medal his 2nd of the day.  Ali and Andrew Ayerman were both in the boy’s 4’8” to 5’2” 6th to 4th kyu category. With Ali only being 10 years of age he went up against his opponent who eventually won the competition who was a lot older and of a lot higher grade. Ali lost but did manage to score 2 points. Andrew however tried to score but ended up giving away points after receiving two warnings and lost the fight 6 – 0.

Now to the girls... Billie Lowry was our first female competitor she entered the 4’2” – 4’8” 6th to 4th kyu category, Billie only had one fight but with some very impressive techniques she managed to take the gold, her second medal of the day.

In the girls 4’8” to 5’2” 3rd – 1st kyu category Jade Lewis was our only competitor. Jade had two others in her category so a round robin was done. Jade scored 7 points to 2 on her first fight and after a 1 minute rest she then went on and won her second fight 7 – 1, this meant that Jade had done enough to secure her second gold for the day.

Jodie Miles was next in the girls 4’8” to 5’2” Dan grade category, and after being the only competitor in the Kata she was ready for Kumite. After being told there were three in her group and a round robin would be done, she then was told that the others had decided not to fight so this gave Jodie her second gold medal of the day and this was to be the last gold for the club.

Our last girl up was Ellie Ayerman. Like Jade before her Ellie had three in her category and so she was also in a round robin. Ellie was unfortunate and lost both of her fights but did manage to collect a bronze medal for her efforts.

It was time for the big boy’s now and with James Kinsey in the men’s 0 – 7th kyu category. This was only the second time James had entered a competition but after a few good techniques he lost 6 points to 3 after the other competitor scored a jodan kick, bad luck James better luck next time. Amir Ayerman was next to compete in the men’s 3rd to 1st kyu grade, Amir was unlucky as his punches didn’t quite make contact but he did come away with a bronze medal for his efforts.

Our last competitor of the day was Dean Bannister. Dean entered the light weight cadets section. Dean got off to a flying start in his first round only to receive a hard blow to his nose after being attended to by the paramedics the match was awarded to Dean as he was 5 points to 2 ahead. Dean’s second fight proved a little harder he was throwing all techniques but only a few were being scored and at the end of time Dean lost 6 points to 4, but Dean also picked up a bronze medal.

All in all Shuhari-Kai had a great day bringing home 6 gold, 1 silver and 7 bronze medals. Congratulations to all the squad who were:

Callum Alboni, Ali Ayerman, Amir Ayerman, Andrew Ayerman, Aryan Ayerman, Ellie Ayerman, Dean Bannister, Reece Floyd, Brandon Halling, Jordan Hodges, James Kinsey, Jade Lewis, Billie Lowry and Jodie Miles.
