Shuhari-Kai Christmas Championships

What a great turn out with most of the students doing their first ever competition. It all started with the 10years and under Kata categor. After all the students had performed their first Kata, the four with the top marks went through to the final round to perform another Kata. The top four were Lia Bannister, Jordan Hill, Jordan Hodges and Billie Lowry. After their next round which was on points again the outcome was:

1st Place Billie Lowry.

2nd Place Jordan Hodges.

3rd Place Jordan Hill.

3rd Place Lia Bannister

Next up was the 15 years and under category plus Vishaal Dovedi as he was the only under 10 brown belt. Again all contestants performed well, and after their first round the top four had to perform another Kata, only this time Sensei Richard Burridge decided to choose their Kata, which turned out to be Pinan Godan. The final result was:

1st Place Sophie Roberts

2nd Place Luke Bannister

3rd Place Jade Lewis

3rd Place Vishaal Dovedi.

Well done Vishaal and where did that jump come from Sophie!!!!!!. As the top four were all brown belts Sensei decided to award a medal to the highest scoring purple and below belt which was Aaron Relf, well done Aaron.

Up next was adults, with three men and 1 woman, we didn’t know what way it would go. But after performing their first Kata correctly, Sensei Richard then asked them to perform Pinan Nidan the reverse way round, a big well done goes out to all who tried, it was a good try with the results as follows:

1st Place Dawn Lowry

2nd Place Amir Ayerman

3rd Place Zac

3rd Place Gerard

JJ Burridge was given a medal, as he was the only black belt adult.

During the interval and just before the Kumite events started, the raffle was drawn. With 30 prizes, most of the people who bought tickets won at least one item. The raffle raised £48.00 for the squad fund.

After the Kata the kids were rearing to go and with the peewee girls up first, it was old pals Billie and Lia, against eachother. At the end of time Billie won 3-0, giving her, her second gold medal of the day.

Next up was the mixed novice category, most of the contestants that entered this event were doing their first competition. Well done for entering and after a few draws and extra times we finally had some winners which were:

1st Place Joshua

2nd Place Scott Hooper

3rd Place Charlotte

4th Place Shalewa

Next was peewee boys with only three contestants their was a round robin which made it very tiring for the students results as follows:

1st Place Aarian

2nd Place Callum

3rd Place Oliver

Boys 10 years and under green belt and below was up next, with the scoring getting more precise, and the techniques getting better it was a very exciting round to watch with the eventual winners being:

1st Place Dominic Constantini

2nd Place Jordan Hodges

3rd Place Daniel Libby

3rd Place Calvin Hill

Boys intermediate next with Vishaal being moved up again because of his grade but nevertheless he performed well against the older boys, who performed their techniques well and tried out new moves which they might not have done at another competition. Results were:

1st Place Luke Bannister

2nd Place Luke Mount

3rd Place Vishaal Dovedi

3rd Place Aaron Relf

Girls 15 years and under was next and again they all showed how far they have come in the last year making it a very enjoyable match between the girls. And the final outcome was:

1st Place Sophie Roberts

2nd Place Amy Mount

3rd Place Jade Lewis

3rd Place Elle Ayerman

Dawn Lowry was awarded a medal, as she was the only female adult to enter the competition.

Next was the adult men’s turn to show us what they could do, it was great fun watching some of the lower grades fight the higher grades well done to them for entering. Results as follows:

1st Place JJ Burridge

2nd Place James Mount

3rd Place Amir Ayerman

4th Place Gerard

At the end of the competition Sensei Richard Burridge thanked everyone for coming and supporting the club, he also thanked the girls doing the scores and time keeping which were Jodie Miles and Sammy Burridge, and to Steve Edwards who helped with the flags. After sensei had finished Steve Edwards thanked sensei for his time and commitment to all his students and presented him with a card  and gift voucher, signed by all the students.
