15th International Trophy Karate Project & Venice Cup

Running report Special...

Day 1...

News from Alex Sell in Venice. Alex was selected to represent Southern Region in the 11-12yrs Team Kumite competition on the first day of the 15th International Trophy Karate Project & Venice Cup, along with Daniel Roche and Connor Lynn both from Roding Karate Club. The team won their opening round fight and went to on win their next round fights too. The team then suffered their first defeats in the third round but not  before they collected Bronze for their efforts. Well done guys and good luck for Sunday.

Total medals so far for Southern Region stands at 2 Golds and 7 Bronzes. The Golds came from EKA's Gary Hall who achieved bronze in Kata but gained Gold in the Kata event for the 1st European Championships for Shotokan which was running along side the Venice Cup. The other Gold came from the girls team Mini-Cadets event with the remaining Bronzes gained in the other team Kumite events.  Well done.

Day 2...

In one of the first events of the morning, our very own Alex Sell, competing in the individual Boys 11-12yrs U50Kg, won GOLD. The Kumite rules were a little different for the youngsters and a continuous non-stop 90 second bout was judged by 3 judges using the flag system. Alex never dropped a flag throughout and took a well deserved gold. Congratulations.

Two more Golds from Roding's James Steadman and Kick's James Witt (the one who beat Alex at the Mushindo), with Silvers from Ben Broom and Daniel Roche, and Bronzes from Sheila Kemp and Rio Smith in the girls mini-cadets.

Another Gold from EKA's Katie Hurry. Congratulations to the EKA contingent and their achievements. Keep the medals rolling in!

Roding's Michael Roche has secured Silver with Haley Bremner collecting Bronze whilst an additional Bronze has gone to Paul Able.

Just in... EKA's Daniel Hollister has gained a Bronze for the squad. Could this the last medal of the day? A quick tally shows that the Southern Region has secured 6 Golds, 3 Silvers and 11 Bronzes. These figures need to be verified but give or take, it's an impressive haul from the squad and all should be proud of the effort and achievements.

Final medal tally was 6 Golds, 3 Silvers and 13 Bronze medals.

Well done to to Southern Region Squad and especially well done to the Southern Region Coaches, Paul Simmons, Molly Samuels and Tyrone White, you all did a great job out there.
