Shuhari Kai Easter Competition

The Kumite events kicked off with the Under 7's event first. They were all very excited as the 'Little Terrors' fought hard. Little Billie Lowry took the honours in that event. The Under 9's was a closely fought event with Jordan Hodges on top form winning Gold.

Next up was the Junior Girls event with the two high seeds meeting in the final, Jodie Miles and Sophie Roberts with Sophie coming out on top. But to get there, they had to use their experience against older opponents who pushed them for the places. Louise West, runner-up in the under 9's opted to compete in this event and fought very well too.

In the Junior Open event, the event was getting hot as the under 9 boys all wanted to compete again, as did Jodie and Sophie too. So the gauntlet was thrown down by the small fighters. 9 year old Alan Reilly fought his way into the final as he fought hard for every point. But in the final he came up against Sophie Roberts and he couldn't quite overcome her too.

In the Senior event,14 year old Fred West joined the big guns but he made the older boys fight hard. Fred was narrowly beaten by Amir Ayerman. Kerry Kerner held his nerve to get to the Semi-finals before being beaten. The final, the Burridge brothers, Wayne and JJ came face-to-face. Wayne justed pipped JJ 3-1. It was a great event for spirit with Kerry making his competition come-back after being out for so long with a serious injury. Kerry showed great courage and lots of guts. As did Wayne as he's also coming back to form after being knocked down and being out for a long time. Well done boys and the well done to the 'Witches' on the flags.

The Kata events were fun especially for the the seniors who were made to select a card a random and perform the Kata as stated (left to right, etc). All the Kata's were judged by three senior Dan grades so the winners know they put on a good display.

My thanks to the 'Witches' who organised and ran the raffle whiched raised loads of money for the squad. Everyone had many Easter Eggs and sweets so nobody was a loser eventhough some got medals and some didn't manage it this time. The competition ran very smoothly and each category ran to time with everyone home before 'Corrie'. This does make a change! This was achieved by yourselves and with the help of the parents who I thank. Thanks also to Steve Bannister for supplying the photos. Full Gallery HERE.
