TeamBT Exact  Karate Championships

Five Shuhari-Kai students travelled up to Ispwich on Sunday 24th October 2004 to take part in the BT Exact Karate Championships hosted by the EKKA (English Korean Karate Association) and sponsored by BT. They came home with 3 Golds, 1 Silver and 5 Bronzes for their efforts.

Team Kata GoldKata events first and Jodie Miles and Alex Sell were up first in the Dan Grade under 15yrs event. Jodie performed Seipai, Alex performed Chatanyara Kushanku and they secured a one-two between them with Alex taking the Gold and Jodie securing the Silver. Both Sophie Roberts and Aimee Sell were up next in the Under 15yrs 3rd-1st Kyu event. Both girls performed Seienchin Kata and Sophie took top spot winning Gold with 9yr old Aimee winning the Bronze medal. Excellent results from our Kata exponents and the Gold medal for the team Kata event with Aimee, Jodie and Sophie performing Seienchin was the icing on the cake.

Alex & Jodie - a club 1-2The Kumite events took place next and all competitors came away with Bronze medals. Jodie fought extremely well but the first to 6 points rule got the better of her after she led 5-1 at one stage. Alex and Sophie also lost out to the 6 point rule as they would normally have had plenty of time to make up any deficits but rules are rules and they were beaten on the day. Lawrence Grosvenor picked up the last Bronze of the day for the squad as he narrowly lost his bout 2-1 in a close contest. Well done to everyone who competed and thanks to Mat Tansley who supported the squad and came so very close himself.
