Team Wins USK Kumite Gold

Left to right: Aimme Sell, Alex Sell, Jodie Miles, Sophie Roberts.Yes it's the infamous Shuhari-Kai junior team at it again. They picked up their third title of the year with an impressive performance to take the gold in the 9th USK International Invitational Championships held in Hornchurch Sports Centre. After coming through the preliminary rounds easily, they were up against a good team from Rainham, Inshinryu, in the final. Alex Sell was first up against EKGB Bonze medallist Robert Clark. After an even match, Alex conceded a point in the dying seconds for the match to go against the team. Next up was Jodie Miles who was facing a win or we're out situation. Jodie proved her class out-pointing her opposition and taking the win. At one win apiece, all hopes were on the last fighter, Sophie Roberts. With the crowd getting behind their teams the atmosphere was tremendous. Sophie held her opposition to a well fought-out draw. This left the situation with both teams equal on wins and also on points scored. The judges decided on a fight-off to decide the winners. Alex elected to re-run his fight again hoping this time to gain revenge. Alex made a brilliant start, taking the fight to his opponent and opening up a significant lead. Amongst screaming crowds the referee called time awarding the victory to Alex with score 6-4 in his favour. After yet another nail-biting final, it was game, set and match to Shuhari-Kai.Shuhari-Kai Squad at USK - 2002

At the same event, Aimee Sell, picked up a bronze medal after competing in the Kumite event. She was knocked out by the eventual winner, but was pleased with her medal.

Chief Instructor Sensei Richard Burridge said he was very proud of the whole squad who took part in this event. Some good performances from the squad made for an enjoyable event.
