More Trophies from Ishinryu Open

A squad from Shuhari-Kai competed in the Inshinryu Open on Saturday 17th May 2003.  Shuhari-Kai ended the tournament with 2 silvers and 2 bronzes. The tournament saw some terrific contests, not least of which was JJ. Burridge's early round fight with Curtis which saw some 'determination' and 'spirit' from both fighters. This fight was one of JJ's most impressive displays of the year so far finally unleashing some of that potential and technical ability that he possesses. JJ. went on to secure a third place finishing taking a Bronze trophy.

Ishinryu Open - SquadAnother excellent display of courage and determination from Sophie Roberts saw her narrowly miss out on the top spot as she was just pipped in her fight in the final which ended at 16-18. The points were going one way, then another, then back again. As there was no points scored being displayed by the judges for any fights, it  was anyone's guess who had claimed victory. Unfortunately, after a nail-biting finish, Sophie was just beaten. Nevertheless, it was a great achievement from another squad member who has so much potential! Well done 'Bandit'!

Overall some good performances saw most of the squad progress through the early rounds until they were finally eliminated. Unfortunately, eventhough there was reportage for all Kata events, strangely there was no reportage for the Kumite events which obviously prevented the squad taking home some more Bronzes. Abigail Gee put on a great display progressing through the rounds and was eventually eliminated in extra time after initially being award the victory! Vishaal Dovedi put on a good show as did Harrison who was competing in his first major competition.

Further trophies did come from Jodie 'Bulldog' Miles who took Silver in her Kata event. Her final Kata, Kushanku, was deemed not quite good enough on the day, but she is rapidly making a name for herself through her Kata exploits.  Wayne Burridge brought home a bronze for his exploits in the Kumite Cadets category. Wayne's trophy made it 2 Bronzes for the boys and 2 Silvers for the girls with the boys at least this time denying the girls all the glory.

Shuhari-Kai would like to take this opportunity to thank Ishinryu for organising this event, providing the referees and judges and running the event smoothly.
