1st Italy Karate Open Championship - Eurocup
Forget Noel Coward, Benny Hill and Michael Caine "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!", forget three Mini Coopers trail-blazing a getaway and the "Self Preservation Society" blasting your eardrums, the 'Real' Italian Job was done by England's
very own three Mini Coopers, Aimee Sell, Alex Sell and James Witt. The mission was clear, the plan was formulated and execution was exquisite. In and out with as much gold as possible. Higashi's James Witt teamed up with Aimee and Alex Sell from Shuhari-Kai
Karate Club to form a small but extremely potent force to take on the rest of Europe in the 1st Italy Karate Open Championship - Eurocup. The tournament was held in Jesolo Lido, just outside of Venice in Italy, and was run over a weekend, the 10-11th December 2005...

TKO Invitational Tournament
Sunday 4th December 2005 saw a Shuhari-Kai squad of ten attend the Tournament Karate Association Invitational Tournament held at Newham Leisure Centre. We had never been invited along to this tournament before and didn't quite know what to expect but was pleasantly
surprised at the number of competitors, especially as no under 8's were allowed meaning we had to leave a few little ones of our own behind this time. The standard was pretty good too which meant the squad had to really work for their medals, as it should be. Although the invitation
was a surprise, it was more than welcomed as this, for many, was the last opportunity for them to compete this year...

Next Generation Kids
 Brother
and sister Karate aces Alex and Aimee Sell have made a hit at the Next Generation Sports Club in Gidea Park recently when the club agreed to sponsor their endeavours on the Karate Competition circuit. The pair who are members of Shuhari-Kai Karate Club already have a number of National
and International titles between them and now hope the extra training they do at the Next Generation Club and the support the club offers will lead them to even greater success.
As well as an excellent outdoor pool to compliment its 25 metre indoor pool which they both regularly use, they also benefit from the under 14 years gym facility which the Next Generation Club offers. On Friday 9th September Sales, Marketing &
Membership Manager, Trevor Brennan, presented them with some branded Next Generation sports holdalls which they can use when attending training and competitions.

BIKO British International Championships
With four competitions being held on the same day plus the regional training sessions and selections, the hardest decision was which competition to attend. In the end it wasn’t really that difficult, “lets go to the closest one”. With
Shuhari-Kai Sensei Richard Burridge deciding to referee at the BIKO British International Championships too the decision was done and dusted. So off we trotted to Grundy Park Leisure Centre in Cheshunt, Herts, on Sunday 11th September for this international event. It was
surprisingly busier than we thought it was going to be given the glut of competitions being held simultaneously which was nice as it gave the squad more competition than expected. The squad of 9 did well with nearly everyone coming home with a medal and between them collected 3 Gold,
2 Silver and 6 Bronze medals...

repaid the honour with spirit and enthusiasm when training. Wayne is recently back from the Commonwealth Karate Championships which were held in New Zealand where he successfully coached the England squad to 12 Gold, 3 Silver and 5 Bronze medals, an excellent start to what promises to
be a fruitful coaching career.
Wayne passed on his valuable knowledge and experience during the 2 hour seminar teaching the students combinations, punching and sweeping techniques. Each student that attended received a signed certificate to commemorate the event at the end. The students thoroughly enjoyed the
seminar and are hopeful Wayne will return in the near future. The overwhelming opinion from the students was that this had been the best seminar so far. Well done Wayne and thank you. For photos of Wayne's visit click HERE. |

15th
European Junior and Cadet Karate Championships
Shuhari-Kai's Lawrence Grosvenor represented England National
Karate squad in the Junior and Cadets European Championships held in
Thessaloniki, Greece. After two weeks of intensive training at the Cyprus
training camp with he rest of the squad he finally flew to Greece for the
championships which were being held between 11-13th February 2005.
Lawrence's training didn't go without a hitch as he became ill and was
unable to train for a number of days. Lawrence recovered though just in time
for the championships itself. Fighting in day two in the Cadets +75KG event,
Lawrence was unlucky to loose out 5-4 to A.Hornez from France in a close
match. Unfortunately, A.Hornez failed to reach the finals meaning that
Lawrence's chances of making the repechage and any medal hopes were dashed.
The Cadet and Junior squad finished with 1 silver and 3 bronze medals. For

South Northern Ireland Open Championships
Our small squad of three, Sophie Roberts, Aimee
Sell and Alex Sell travelled to Belfast on Friday night 4th

lovely time in Belfast. The people we met were warm and friendly and the
city itself was buzzing. Saturday night out at Café Milan was absolutely
jammed packed with the cosmopolitan trendies who ensured the 30 minute wait
for a table at 7:00pm was worth it. The competition itself however, wasn't
really worth it...
